Verizon Recognize Key Trends 2014

In 2014, adding software and services to the cloud will be a key focus for cloud providers seeking to attract customers, adding gravity and encouraging user stickiness.  Integrated cloud offerings will increasingly enable mashups of fixed and mobile networks; systems, ideas and solutions; people and things; and intelligence and information. Providing systems and tools to transform these data into insights in the cloud and on demand is expected to transform the customer experience.

 

Gartner Symposium/ITxpo

Australia’s largest and most important annual gathering of chief information officers (CIOs) and senior technology executives, Gartner Symposium/ITxpo, will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre from 28 to 31 October.

More than thousands will attend the conference and exhibition held over four days with technology companies  exhibiting their products and services, including Google and Microsoft as premier sponsors. This year, there are also exhibitors from as far afield as Sri Lanka and Jiangsu province in China.

Gartner is the world’s largest technology research and advisory company that advises information technology (IT) executives on the trends and technologies they need to understand to make the best decisions for their organisation. Symposium/ITxpo is the company’s flagship annual conference held in eight locations around the world. 

More than 1,400 people will attend the conference and exhibition held over four days and more than 70 technology companies will exhibit their products and services, including Google and Microsoft as premier sponsors. This year, there are also exhibitors from as far afield as Sri Lanka and Jiangsu province in China.

 Monday from 11.00am, technology executives from the banking, government, education, retail, energy and utilities, manufacturing and healthcare sectors will hear about technology trends and issues specific to their industry

Snowden’s Leak May Dampen The Cloud

 

The Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, reported, that  European companies, in particular, may successfully exploit the spying disclosures to challenge U.S. cloud computing leadership in foreign markets. Edward Snowden’s leak about the U.S. government’s data spying program PRISM may result in U.S. cloud providers losing 10% to 20% of the foreign market to overseas competitors. His revealing the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs PRISM and XKeyscoe has also created headaches for Canadian, European, and APAC users of US cloud providers. 

The cloud community spent years addressing the inherent ambivalence that customers could feel in moving sensitive data to the cloud. In the past,  fears revolved around the threat of malicious hackers and disgruntled employees/partners accidentally or willfully exposing their data. Today, it’s legal entities and governments that are doing the same. That’s a whole other threat assessment. The cloud industry could lose as much as $35 billion over the next three years. A recent CSA survey found that half of the  non-US respondents surveyed said they will move away from US clouds. But where would they go? And how can they ensure that they would be moving to better provider and not from the proverbial frying pan into the fire?

Silent Circle, a U.S.-based encrypted email service, said on Friday that it was shutting down. The company also offers Silent Phone, an encrypted mobile video and voice service, Silent Text, an encrypted business document service and Silent Eyes a secure teleconferencing platform.
