Facebook says they do it to keep you safe.  Buying stolen passwords lets Facebook figure out what passwords you may have already used somewhere else on the Web. If they see that you are, they can force you to change it. That makes it a little harder for someone to hijack your Facebook account. A compromised Facebook account provides cybercriminals with a powerful tool to launch attacks. Those attacks would likely target your Facebook contacts: your family, friends, and colleagues
